It’s well documented on this ol’ website that when it comes to baked cracker type snacks, the Cheez-It hands down takes the cake as my favorite. So it should go without saying that I’m disappointed that I missed the opportunity to vote for the newest flavor, and I blame all of you for not telling me. So now, here I am, stuck with the new flavor of Colby. I’m not complaining really, it seems like a good fit. But I also feel like I’m stuck with a new president when I didn’t even know about the election. It’s a shame too, Romano and Asiago seemed like very viable candidates for the position.
I had to break out the original Cheez-Its as a point of reference. Considering my love for the snack, it shouldn’t surprise you that I’m sitting here thoroughly comparing the two. Taste aside, there are some fairly notable differences to be had. Colby is a much more pale orange, as if one of the Sklar Brothers didn’t bother to go outside. More surprisingly, I could swear that these crackers are actually softer than the original. I keep jumping between the two, and I really do think that the Colby crackers have less crunch. I don’t think a faulty chip clip is to blame either, it’s too much of a coincidence that Colby is known for being a soft cheese.
For a soft cheese, though, it has a rather bold taste. If I hadn’t done such lengthy research by reading all six lines on Wikipedia, I would have gone on believing that Colby was a sharper kind of cheddar. When In Cheez-It form it’s almost overwhelmingly stronger than the original. Which I assume I can attribute to the addition of Cheddar mixed into the Colby recipe, more than the titular cheese itself. It’s stronger, more tangy, and overall more intensely flavored than the Cheez-It classic. I can safely give the classic the eternal rating of a 7, yet the Colby is too alarming on my taste buds to go any higher than a 5.

If you can find the elusive Baby Swiss it is by FAR my favorite! Cheesy and tangy with a slight sweetness to it really makes for an enjoyable snaking experience. I have only found it once in my area (Tidewater, VA) and I will forever be on the search for it again!
Hello, Kat. I just wanted to say that I don’t believe that the Baby Swiss flavor is very rare. The Shop- Smart in my “city” of 5000 always has some stocked. That being said, Baby Swiss is definetely in my top 5. Also, I’m surprised that the author of the article did not mention the flavors similarity to the Cheddar Jack Cheez- It. The Cheddar Jack style is my favorite, because it’s just as crispy as the original, and not as tangy as Colby. I voted for Romano, BTW.
I voted for asiago but then I always do that when it’s considered in a democracy.
cheez-it COLBY taste like crap
:3
I love Colby Cheez-Its so much
P.S
Romano is South Italy, NOT a flavor
