I woke up today, feeling hungry. I remembered my local radio station running advertisements about Popeye’s new Red Hot Popcorn Chicken. Mixed with Cayenna, Black & White and Habanero (my favorite of the listed) peppers, they’re advertised to give you a kick in the mouth with flavor. Comes with a bunch of those, some fries, and a biscuit for $2.99. Pretty sweet value. So I went up there and got me an order, plus a drink (not included in the $3 cost).
I have a natural gravitation toward spicy food, and I really like how fast food places are just randomly introducing some spicy foods to their menu. However, many times this advertised “kick in the mouth” feeling just doesn’t pan out for me. Most of my friends will say this is probably a “just me” complaint, but it’s just not spicy enough. Popeye’s “Red Hot” Popcorn Chicken is no exception. It has a hint of spice, which I suppose is better than no spice at all, but it’s just making me want more.
Despite my “make it hotter” complaint that I have with virtually every other spicy food on the fast food market (get some ghost peppers involved, pansies), the value is amazing. About 20 pieces of popcorn chicken with an order of delicious Cajun fries (looked more like a medium than a small, to be honest…I don’t really go to Popeye’s often so I wouldn’t know) and one biscuit for 3 dollars. I don’t know about you, but that’s pretty sweet. Will buy again, though I’ll probably end up throwing my own personal collection of spices into the mix.
