Kellogg's Crunchy Nut Cereal

In the inaugural episode of Arrested Development, Jason Bateman asks a young Michael Cera a question that we ask ourselves everyday. “Do you want the loops or the flakes?” Whether it’s coffee or tea, buy or rent, or even snooze or wake up, we go through everyday metaphorically trying to figure out what kind of cereal we want. As if life wasn’t full of enough questions, Kellogg’s didn’t even try to make things easier and just chose to leave the decisions up to us. If the entire aisle of cereals wasn’t enough, now we can choose from two more breakfast shapes coated in peanut shreds. Well for those of you who would rather spend time deciding important things, I hope I can help make this choice easier.

The loops (Roasted Nut & Honey) are a basic combination of oat and corn, which is a variation of the oat-based Cheerio I’m so used to. They’re a bit more coarse than Cheerios which is a noticeable texture difference. Covering the loops is a classic mix of honey and peanuts, although it’s in an unusual location. However that does make it a perfect cereal to eat dry. The mix of the grains and nuts is almost like eating trail mix bites, but it loses some of it’s magic when it comes time to pour milk over it. The grains are way too absorbent, and much of the flavor is lost into the milk right after pouring. It may be the healthier of the two, but it shouldn’t have to sacrifice taste. Eat this one dry or suffer the wrath of plain, bland cereal.

The flakes (Golden Honey Nut) on the other hand are what I was looking forward to more, seeing as my go to cereal is Frosted Flakes. Although these are more of the Corn Flakes type with low sugar, it’s not like any of us need the extra sugar anyways. The coating is the same as the loops with the Honey and Peanut bit coating. However this is the cereal that actually holds up to a bowl of milk, which is strange for flakes. It’s exactly what you would expect from looking at the box, a dominating flavor of peanuts with a light hint of sweetness from the honey. It’s essentially the opposite of the loops, because it’s a pretty bland cereal when dry. I would only recommend either of these cereals to people looking for something more healthy than the cereals you ate as a child. If you want a cereal that goes great with milk, choose the flakes. If you want a cereal that’s a great healthy afternoon snack on its own, try the loops. If you want something fantastic to watch while eating, might I suggest the aforementioned Arrested Development?

Burger King Breakfast Bowl

We've all heard Patton Oswalt's brilliant "failure pile in a sadness bowl" joke about the KFC Famous Bowl. Thought that would've shamed the rest of fast food outta making more mashed-together-food-bowls? Me too, but BK said uh-uh.

I don't even know if there's a cereal that's more classic than Honey Nut Cheerios. Simple as they are, they have quite a fanciful and delicious taste. It may have taken a while, but Cheerios have finally been chocolatized, whic...

  1. Oh hush up this stuff is great!

  2. The roasted nuts and honey are great even with milk. I don't care if it loses flavor, it still tastes great enough that I wanted to eat the whole box right now but what am I going to eat tomorrow morning if I eat it all. I recommend it to anyone who are able to eat nuts and honey. Just buy them and try them out. I know I didn't regret them.

  3. I purchased Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut last week without reading the label. What a mistake that was! It tastes like carmel corn! It does not pay to be in a hurry but I was relying on the Kellogg’s name for a good product. The sodium is too high and the sugar outragious. Where is the fiber?

  4. I thought the flakes tasted like cracker jacks…

  5. Me and my younger sister enjoy Crunchy Nut, and I agree: It’s great dry. I would even go as far as to say it’s better that way. Oh, boy am I precoious today. Oo! Yeah.
