Snickers is a classic candy bar. Another way to say that is, Snickers is an old candy bar. So while their marketing campaigns may have changed, they haven’t done much to the actual item itself to vary it up. Snickers is great, but there’s only so many times I’m gonna choose that over something else, even though I usually just go with Payday. With that choice in mind, it should be obvious that I am a fan of peanuts, and their tangential butter.
Funny, then, that their new variation is the Peanut Butter Snickers. Being that I can only think of about two things that would not benefit from added peanut butter, I’m not going to criticize anyone for attempting just that. We all know that peanut butter and chocolate have kind of a cozy past, so it’s not really surprising to see them fooling around in public again. And then the peanuts and caramel make it like it’s a delicious three way between those two and Payday.
The peanut butter I suppose is the centerpiece of the bar. They’re banking on the fact that peanut butter will persuade people to buy their product, so is it worth it? Mmmmmprobably. That’s my brain’s most base and honest answer. The peanut butter, first of all, replaces the nougat in the Snickers bar. Because of this, it has to be a bit thicker than it normally would be. It’s more confectionary-esque than the peanut butter in other candy bars. It also isn’t quite salty enough. The tastes blend together too much, but the textures blend together just right. The slightly granular texture of the peanut butter is smoothened out by the caramel and chocolate coating, with pieces of peanut thrown in for good measure. It’s a textural delight. If you like peanut butter and/or Snickers, definitely give this one a try.
