Lay’s Kettle Cooked Sharp Cheddar Chips

Lays Kettle Sharp Cheddar

Sharp Cheddar is one of my favorite types of cheese, and the sharper the better. So seeing a bag of chips with both the words “New!” and “Sharp Cheddar” on it was like a dream come true for me. To add considerably to that already high level of greatness, it was on the front of a Lay’s Kettle Cooked bag of chips. If for some reason you don’t know, Kettle Cooked chips are thicker and crunchier than your average chip, thusly making them far more worth it to eat, and usually more packed with flavor.

When I opened the bag, I immediately got whooshed in the face with what I thought was the smell of peanut oil, but I looked on the bag and it turns out it’s sunflower oil. Apparently, using sunflower oil lowers the levels of trans fat, amongst other benefits, which makes sense because it says 0g Trans Fat on the bag.

So these chips are great. They’re pretty cheesy and they taste fantastic, but the actual cheddar flavor is more mild to medium. I guess that’s being picky, but when you write Sharp Cheddar on the bag you better have a Sharp Cheddar taste. You could get this amount of cheese flavor in any brand, shape, or style of chip. Hell, if you get yourself some Doritos you may even be able to surpass the cheese flavor of these, albeit with a different cheese. The point is, get back to work Lay’s. If you’re a fan of cheese chips, these will satisfy your craving. If you know what Sharp Cheddar is supposed to taste like, these will just be good cheese chips to you.
