Jalapeno Cheddar Combos

Man, Combos and I go way back. Combos might’ve been the first snack food that really blew my mind by being different. When I was younger, Combos reigned supreme in my list of favorite snacks. And how could they not? They’re fantastic – hard cracker/pretzel shells with cheese flavored filling, the consistency of which is indescribable. What’s not to love?

For a long time the Pepperoni Pizzeria flavor was my favorite, and I still have a soft spot for it, but I vary it up a bit more nowadays. Their most recent flavor, Zesty Salsa Tortilla, marked a move to new territory for Combos, both in flavor and in cracker, which was made of stone ground corn. If you haven’t enjoyed that flavor yet, give it a try.

Thankfully enough, the flavor experts makin’ the magic at Combos have bestowed upon us yet another fantastical creation: Jalapeño Cheddar Tortilla! It makes perfect sense in the line of Combos flavors. Now that I think of it, I’m actually pretty surprised they haven’t moved into sweet territory yet — no Peanut Butter Combos, or Chocolate. Or both! They’ve probably already created them and just decided that they’re too good for humanity. I’m fairly certain that’s the case, actually.

In any case, these Jalapeño Cheddar Tortilla Combos are everything you’d hope they’d be and more. The stone ground corn tortilla shell is lightly salted, and tastes much like a restaurant tortilla chip on its own, but in combination with the Jalapeño Cheddar filling it takes the flavor to a whole new level. The filling is three parts Jalapeño, one part Cheddar, and while that’d be good enough on its own, they actually made the effort to make them spicy! It’s not unreasonable to either extreme, but it’s more of a sensation than you’ll get from any Dorito, Frito, and I was gonna say Cheeto, but alas, Flamin’ Hot Cheetos take the trophy there, I believe. But the spice is adequate; probably akin to eating a small slice of Jalapeño on a tortilla chip. After eating a handful of these, I was sitting there ten minutes later with a mouth that still tasted strongly of Jalapeño flavor, almost like smelling a wet jar of them. It was fantastic. I’d definitely advise you to purchase some of these asap, if you’re a fan of this kinda thing.

Ruffles Smokehouse Style BBQ Chips

After decades of potato chip-ery, you'd think that we'd be beyond the era of BBQ. Not so! says Frito-Lay. Ruffles' Smokehouse Style BBQ chips may not necessarily taste new, but the bag says otherwise. Find out what Kaitis thinks.

Wendy's Cheesy Cheddar Burger Review

Wendy’s Cheesy Cheddar Burger

There are a lot of things you can do with a burger, but arguably one of the best is to add cheese. Not plain old American cheese, but Cheddar. Wendy's has made the attempt, but did they cheese it up right?

Snyder’s of Hanover Three Cheese Medley Nibblers

Snyder's of Hanover claims to be America's Pretzel Bakery since 1909. I don't know about that, but they've been mine since about 2007. I tried out their new Three Cheese Medley Sourdough Nibblers.

  1. >I picked these up at a truck stop and I thought they sucked! Combos are my favorite traveling food and I thought that these are probably the worst Combos that I have had. The corn dusting was the big problem. I agree with your comment on sweet territory, it seems that you could make a candy and make $$ of the branding…

  2. I totally agree with this review. These Combos are NASTY! I did end up eating the entire bag, though… ha ha ha.

  3. I completely disagree with the two comments above. Best flavor they've put out yet! I was in love with the Zesty Salsa but these even surpassed those! I'm a fan of strong flavor and these do not dissapoint. The make the standard Combos taste quite bland actually.Amazing and Kudos to Combos!!

  4. These are amazing. I have to say my favourite flavour of Combos, yet!
