Domino’s Bread Bowl Pasta

Domino's Bread Bowl Pasta

As GrubGrade was kind enough to point out, Domino’s was in the business of giving out their new Bread Bowl Pastas for free yesterday. Probably just a recession-fueled move to get people interested in the brand again. Probably also an attempt to send an F you to Pizza (Pasta) Hut, but also to let consumers know that Pizza Hut isn’t the only one in the pasta business. But hell, regardless of the motivation, I’m not complaining. And I’m complaining even less, having eaten what they gave me.

Domino’s played it smart with this item; they not only created five separate flavors – Chicken Alfredo, Three Cheese Mac-N-Cheese, Chicken Carbonara, Pasta Primavera, and Italian Sausage Marinara – but they allow you to create your own Bread Bowl Pasta, by mixing any of their three main ingredients, which I’m assuming consist of a sauce, pasta, and chicken/bacon/veggies/mushrooms, etc. Pizza Hut currently only has 4 types of pasta, but then again, theirs are like 3 pound pasta platters, and in a different price range, too. Oh wow, I just checked, and now Pizza Hut allows you to combine two different pasta flavors in one box. The battle heats up!

In my opinion, this one goes to Domino’s. The Bread Bowl Pasta is tastier, more unique, and more varied than the Pizza Hut pasta offerings. I got Three Cheese Mac-N-Cheese (to give myself a break from the past 3 or so years of Chicken Alfredo obsession), and I was so satisfied it was surprising. First of all, the entire item is about 8 inches in diameter. So right of the bat, it’s actually a lot more food than you expect. There was more pasta included than I expected, also; in the commercial they make it look like a tiny spot, but it’s adequate. I can’t speak for any other flavors, but as for Three Cheese Mac-N-Cheese, it’s excellent. Most restaurant mac and cheese has a bland, tasteless kinda flavor, but this was tangy, full-flavored, and fresh tasting. The pasta itself was fully cooked and was bathing in a serious amount of cheese sauce.

Onto the bread. This may be the best part of the meal. If you’ve ever been to Panera Bread and tried their bread bowl soup, you can sorta imagine what it’s like, but Domino’s achieved full potential with their bread bowl. First, it’s thick and huge. Plenty of bread. Second, if you enjoy Domino’s cheesy/garlic bread, you’ll love their Bread Bowls, because they’re seasoned exactly the same. So no, it’s not just plain bread you’ll be eating, it’s deliciously enhanced bread. It’s soft and easy to tear off, also. However, ripping the bread will land you a fine layer of grease and seasoning on your fingers; you might not wanna eat this while using a computer or technology.

Now here’s the kicker – Bread Bowl Pastas are FILLING. I was quickly approaching full before I’d even finished half of it. So either this $5.99 item is a good meal for two normal people, or two meals in one. You might be worried about refrigerating and reheating it, but worry not, because when I reheated it, it was just as good, if not better than fresh. The bread stayed soft, the pasta got saucy, and everything worked out well. I honestly can’t think of any reason that Domino’s Bread Bowl Pastas should not get a seven, except for the fact that you probably get a week’s worth of carbs from eating one.

Continuing with our Dominos American Legends reviews, Matt grabbed a box of some tangy Memphis BBQ Chicken pizza. That's pretty much as American as a pizza could get, I suppose. It's like a barbecue in the park on top of a pie.

  1. >Wow wow wow, that’s amazing. I guess, good job to those guys. It’ll be interesting to see if it gets broad approval and if it sticks around.

  2. >Now I’m going to go in with high expectations…not sure when I’ll pick one up but I’m looking forward to it. Great review(s).

  3. >Had the Mac-N-Cheese, Very good. I’d give it an A, It’s a lot of food.

    >I have a new favorite pizza chain and it is Dominos. I ordered the bread bowl pasta yesterday for dinner and again tonight. I know that can’t be healthy but it is worth it. First off, let me say that Dominos actually writes the bowls off as two servings.(around 300-375 calories per serving) I learned this the hard way after struggling to finish every last bite. So you can probably feed two with just one bowl, and a side order of wings if you really want to stuff yourself. If not, skip a meal and take on the entire bowl like myself. The bread itself has some sort of Italian seasoning which makes it great. The bread is cooked so that it is very soft around the edges and almost doughy underneath the pasta. The pasta itself is oven baked and the toppings stay together quite nicely. I was able to alternate between eating the pasta and tearing away at the bowl, without it falling apart. You could even eat it like a traditional pizza if you wanted, but I would recommend using both hands for that one. Now, as for which bowls I have ordered. I made both of the orders custom, choosing 3 toppings and one of three sauces.1st time- Custom Bread Bowl w/ marinara sauce and parmasian cheese, chicken, and mushrooms.-the baked chicken, parmasian cheese, and marinara almost made it taste like a traditional chicken parmasian you would order from a restaurant-8/102nd time- Custom Bread Bowl w/ alfredo sauce and parmasian cheese, chicken, and mushrooms.-is basically the chicken alfredo bowl with what I felt was a more authentic italian taste -the parmasian cheese held the dish together quite nicely-surprised by how good the alfredo sauce tasted; I expected it to taste funky like Lean Cuisine alfredo sauce but was glad it didn’t-9/10In conclusion, these bowl are a win. I think that it is the oven baking that gives these bowls such good flavor and uniformity.

    >Correction to my above review. The calories are more than I thought; they are actually double. I thought those numbers were too good to be true. But that doesn’t change the fact that I loved every bite of it, no matter how ashamed I am of myself…heheheHere is a link to the Nutrional FAQhttp://www.yumyucky.com/All%20Pasta%20Combined.pdf

  6. >Thanks for the review, JM!

  7. >I had one today after seeing a commercial. Your right, the mac and cheese one was better then I expected. I was expecting a half assed, melted shredded cheddar cheese over some pasta, but the cheese was nicer then that. Also the seasoning on the bread was good. I couldn’t finish it by myself in one sitting either. I wish people would stop bitching about the whole “carbs on carbs” thing, no one is forcing them to eat it.

  8. >Hey everyone! Boy, I was glad to find a forum to comment and review these Domino’s Bread Pasta Bowls. They get a 100 in my book, forget a 7 or a 10! I ordered the chicken carbonara and enjoyed EVERY SINGLE BITE! The alfredo sauce was rich and flavorful. And that crust….OMG it was like eating Domino’s wonderful breadsticks with the garlic, butter, and oregano baked onto the crust. The ingredients (chicken, bacon, and mushrooms) added to the soft yet firm pasta to make such a tasty meal! EVERYONE SHOULD TRY IT AT LEAST ONCE….they WILL come back for more. The nex time I order it, I will probably go for customizing. Yes, I agree this should be shared with someone or made into two meals; it’s A LOT for $5.99. KUDOS, Domino’s!

  9. >I had the bread bowl Saturday around noon. I am a big man, so I ate it all.Just to let you all know, we have a lot of Italian restaurants around here. And as you know, Italian food is elegant. the Bread Bowl Pasta isn’t elegant, but it is much tastier than any pasta from an Italian restaurant, and it’s MUCH cheaper. I loved it. Savored it from bite one to the end. I was stuffed. Usually when I eat foods and there’s a lot, its a struggle to eat the last bite. It was because my stomach was hurting, but I didn’t regret eating the whole thing even though. I had one later Saturday, at night. Then I also bought one on Sunday. By the way, they were Chicken Alfredo.I would just like to start the war, Dominos’ Bread Bowl Pastas VERSUS Pizza Hut’s Tuscani Pastas. By far, Dominos blows Pizza Hut out of the water. I use to love Pizza Hut, but the last couple years everything I order there hurts my stomach…and not because I get full.

  10. >Thanks for your thoughts, guys! I couldn’t agree more with both of you.

  11. >Tonight my family had the pasta bowls and needless to say it was great. We had the Pasta Primavera, Mac & Cheese, Build your Own (pepperoni and cheese) and the Chicken Carb-something. It was wonderful and none of us were able to finish it. It is definitely one I will get for lunch one of these days because the price is right. Definitely two thumbs up!

  12. >These Domino’s bread bowl pastas are no good. I bet they’ll be discontinued soon. Got one today and the bottom of the bread bowl was gooey because the dough was not cooked enough.Their subs are better than the bread bowl pastas.

  13. >Had the Chicken Carbonara today, first off I’ll say you don’t get a lot of pasta in one of these bowls, and I’m not sure what pygmy village the rest of you reviewers escaped from but I finished the whole thing in about 6-7 minutes and was still left wanting. Even with the online discount it cost about $7.55, and most Dominos offer a carryout one topping large pizza for about $1-$2 more than that. Was good to try once but I’ll stick to pizza in the future. The taste was fine but again not a lot of pasta or sauce although everything tasted pretty good the bread bowl was fine.

  14. >The pasta was good, but the bread bowl was NOT entirely cooked in the middle. Keep that in mind.

  15. >I had the Chicken Carbonara today…LOVED IT!!! It’s true there’s not a lot of pasta, but whats in the bread bowl is delicious…I definitely ate all in one sitting…great pasta..TRY IT!!!

  16. >To the anonymous reviewer above: Im not sure where you live, but go to the website, and you can even use the coupon code breadbowl to get 2 breadbowls and 2 drinks for $15.00. And as far as not filling you up….you may need to slow down a bit, glutton. And, I do believe the bread bowl is fully cooked, its just that all of the sauces cause the bread to get a little soggy in the bottom..Overall, this is the best offering a pizza joint is offering right now; the price is amazing!

  17. >I thought that it was excellent, especially the bread. Expertly seasoned.

  18. >Just tried a Mac n'Cheese vesion of Domino's new bread bowls and it is delicious. The cheese sauce is flavorful and the bread bowl it comes in is delicous. I'll definitly have some left for later. Definitly on the top of my list for delivery food.

  19. >Have any of you people eaten real quality seasoned pastas with sauce before? This stuff is crap…sheesh. Only in America would this pass as a meal. Pasta stuffed in bread covered in cheese and bacon bits. MMMM!! Eat up you glutenous pigs.

  20. >As long as you're gonna isolate yourself, you might as well learn to spell.

  21. >I got the chicken alfredo bread bowl from dominos and it is delicious and great. My friends had a bug in it but she loved it until that was found. No bug in mine so yummy.

  22. >DOMINO'S LIES!! They actually get the pasta from some quaint little Italian restaurant where some huge Italian chef is making it the way his parents and grandparents did because there is no way the same Domino's that I have come to know and just not mind, is making something this GOOD!I tried the Chicken Alfredo, eating it now, and HAD to tell someone that for the 7 bucks you pay for this thing, its totally worth it. I was also expecting nothing special from the bread, but its not like their pizza crust at all, is TOTALLY GOOD! Fluffy, warm, seasoned, and yum.

  23. >I live in NYC, so there's no shortage of awesome pizza joints and Italian restaurants. So, understandably, I was a little skeptical of these things when they first came out. I have to say, they taste great, and because of their size, I can split one with my girlfriend and walk away satisfied. Domino's has gotten much better over the years.

  24. >absolutely amazing taste, beyond words. If you try it once, you will try it again.

  25. >This is not amazing at all! It's okay, but there is hardly any sauce in it the sauce is liquidy and the bread bowl is not thoroughly cooked…the bottom is still doey…NO it is not because the pasta made it soggy it is definatly not fully cooked and doey!!THe taste is very average as well. I could make one just as well, if not better at home!

  26. >I am eating one as i am typing this and i have to say there really is nothing special about this at all… Sure the pasta is good but you get very little of it. It is basicly the same recipe as their break sticks with a little pasta on top… the cheese was greasy beyond anything i have ever put in my mouth. the sauce was a pleasant suprise however but the sausage was pure stock of anything i have ever tasted at a large pizza chain. i think i will stick to dominos for my favorite cheese steak pizza and for pasta i'll stick with a winner… pizza hut.

  27. no way. the margarine crap slathered all over the top to appeal to the fat butts out there is the same as they put on everything to cover up the fact they have to ship it out in cardboard. so much of the slime that it half melted the plasic wrap to the spoon. Hello- go to Spin Pizza in Overland Park, KS. and see how to do it right. Dorks- no one in my house touched it.

  28. Hey anonymous above me, I have news for you, not everyone can go to KS for a no name brand "Spin Pizza" bread bowl pasta. As for the bread bowl, it was pretty tasty, although I did feel as though they skimped on my pasta, not sure if it was just the place i ordered it from that made it like that or it was standard, but there wasn't much pasta in my chicken carbonara bread bowl, but damn tasty

  29. OMG!!!!!DOMINO'S NEW PIZZA IS SOOOO GOOD! THEIR OLD PIZZA LEAVES ME THIRSTY AFTER TWO SLICES. BUT THIS NEW ONE HAS SUCH A GREAT TASTE FROM START TO FINISH. I MUST SAY I AT MY WHOLE BOX OF PIZZA IN 8 MINUTES I NEVER HAVE DONE THAT BEFORE WHITH OUT DRINKING ANYTHING I LOVE THIS PIZZA SO MUCH THEY SHOULD BE UP UPSET WITH THEIR BECAUSE THEY ALREADY KNOW THERE ARE FAT PEOPLE IN THE WORLD AND WITH THIS NEW PIZZA ALL THEY ARE DOING IS MAKING THEM FATTER BECAUSE OF THE GREAT TASTE. DOMINO'S YOU HAVE REALLY KICKED PIZZA HUT, PAPA JOHNS, CICI'S LITTLE CEASER AND SO MANY MORE ASSES!!! I LOVE YOU GUYS!!!!!

  30. >=| when i orderd, 99% of the noodles were bare. disgusting. they gave NO sauce.

  31. Skribz

I love my dominos. I don’t know about anyone else but the dominos I order from is amazing and makes it the way I like it. I ordered the Mac and Cheese Bread bowl after some good reviews
The sauce covers every noodle and it’s not watery. They are completly cooked. The bread is seasoned like the pizza is, which is my favorite part of dominos. I dug down to grab a bite of the bottom and it’s cooked all the way through. The bread isn’t dry or dough filled.
I got a side of marinara sauce and it’s good with the sauce, noodle and bread all together.
    I give it a good 8/10.
This review set my mind on ordering it and I’m super glad I did.
