Blockhead Rhythm Maker Pedal

A few days after I bought the Double Cymbal pack for my Rock Band 2 Drumset, I couldn’t help but notice how it was so well-equipped on top, but was lacking on the bottom (I see you laughing like a little kid over there…yeah, you). So I recalled seeing the pedal in question at my local Best Buy, and decided to go purchase it. Comes with a built-in splitter so you can hook it up to your bass outlet while plugging your existing bass pedal directly into this one to provide double bass capabilities. More on that in a second, though.

The pedal itself is very nice and sturdy, while being even easier to press down continuously than the normal pedal provided with the ‘Set. It looks like a real Bass Pedal, without the attached mallet, of course. It’s quite heavy, so you don’t have to worry about it slipping. However, it should be noted that if you’re using this as a replacement for single bass, it doesn’t have anything on the bottom to allow it to fit into the bars on the bottom of the Drumset, so you’ll have to place it somewhere a little more in front than normal. If you’re doing double bass, however, that would probably be happening anyway, so it’s not that big of a deal in that aspect.

Now, obviously this thing is meant for double bass, so its main flaw is pretty big; when it’s all connected, both pedals will give signals that the pedal was pushed down. However, it can only take one of these signals at a time. While one pedal is held down, the other can’t send this signal. Basically, if you’re looking to increase your pedal speed, this flaw pretty much provides a setback for that. However, if you’re wanting to provide a way to just be able to rest one foot once it gets tired without having to switch feet constantly, this definitely works. If your old pedal broke, this is probably the best one out for the reasonable price. If you’re just a nerd who wants to be complete about it (…>_>), this is also a good way to go about doing that.

The pedal, as well as the splitter, is compatible with both Rock Band 1 and 2 Drumsets. I haven’t tested it on the Guitar Hero World Tour Drumset, but I’ve heard it doesn’t work…if you know for sure, throw a comment and let it be known.

Rock Band 3

Rock Band 3 is out now, with a couple new peripherals like the Keyboard, and the Pro Guitar, which enables you to play an actual guitar of sorts, instead of just pushing combinations of five colored buttons. Not too shabby!
